Headlight

Slowly Down (Ep)

(2010 Winter Palace Records)

street date: November 2, 2010

Headlight is Axel Enoc’s electronic ambient experimental dreampop project.

It started in early 2009 originally as an ambient noise project based on heavily effect-processed experimental guitar and with time found its heart in analog synthesizers and tape effects. His sound is achieved by running vintage analog synthesizers and effects through a Roland Space Echo RE-201 recorded on 4-track tape recorders as well as digital programs. Headlight’s use of classic, pure analog synthesizer sounds is reminiscent of old TV tunes made on synthesizers in the 70’s and 80’s for PBS, NBC or Children’s Television Workshop.

Headlight’s idea is to create music which induces a physical feeling of slowly floating upwards or slowly sinking, like a conscious sleep or lucid dream, while also capturing a very heavy nostalgic childhood feeling that connects both its creator as well as the listener to a sense of happiness.

Headlight’s influences include Broadcast, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac, Bjork, Bibio and Infinite Body. He is currently based in Los Angeles where he was born and raised.
